Conference dinner (June 26)

The NT13 Conference dinner will be held on Wednesday evening at Kalastajatorppa ("Fisherman's croft" in Finnish). The first cafe was opened at the same spot in 1915, making the restaurant a mainstay of Helsinki dining for almost 100 years. The reception will be hosted by the NT13 co-chair, dean of the Aalto University School of Science, Academy Professor Risto Nieminen, and is supported by our gold sponsor AIXTRON who will address the delegates.

The Dinner entertainment will be provided by two very special Finnish artists:

Laura Iso-Metsala

Phantom

(C) Pyryantero Photography

Laura Iso-Metsala is a Finnish singer and folk musician, drawing her inspiration from the old Finnish song tradition and the mysticism of the ancient national epic, Kalevala. The ethereal tone of her kantele (a Finnish zither instrument) attunes the minds of the listeners to the presence of the forest spirits, before incantations whirl them into the flow of the perennial verses.

Phantom was formed in January 2012 by singer & songwriter Hanna Toivonen and Aalto alumn, producer & sound designer Tommi Koskinen. Phantom blossomed from a mutual interest for alternative electronic music and innovative ways of making it. Their music swims from catchy future pop with a jazzy twist to dark waters of electro and cinematic eerie soundscapes and alternative electroacoustic beats.

Phantom launched their first EP 'Scars' and music video at the 2012 SXSW Festival. Their live shows have provoked rapturous responses, incorporating stunning realtime Kinect visuals and an original handmade instrument (a midi theremin) affectionately called UFO. Phantom is currently working on their debut album.

Check out wearephantom.com for a taster of their sound and videos.
